Sunglasses on, nice drink in hand, blue sky and the tension of pigeon homecoming … do you want more? That was pretty much the picture of last Saturday 21st of April. Due to fog and mist in Belgium, the more than 19,500 pigeons from our NPO Province 7 were only unloaded at 12:30 in Lessines (160km) with a light northeast wind.
We had put 157 in it and they were beautiful, pretty full and pink white on the sternum. Almost on the heavy side actually for a short distance race, but that is also our goal: making sure that the pigeons have no shortcomings in the beginning of the season. The reason is that if the reserves on theĀ short distance have already been addressed, it will then become difficult to have those reserves back in theĀ important long middle distance (in a few weeks already) races.
At 2:39 pm the first pigeon, a widower of the barn-shed, followed shortly afterwards by a widower of the garden shed. A widow hen followed, and then the pigeons started to fall short, at 12:44 there are 20 pigeons in 1 minute, all of them just under 1200mpm. Cocks and hens fell nicely together. The cocks, however, showed more urge to come in, understood ‘the game’ better than the hens.
A number of pigeons was not home on Saturday but fortunately that Sunday was still well fulfilled, so we now (Monday) only have a four missing. They have had their first good test.
In the club (717 pigeons) we do not really get involved, we start on the 22nd place and win 42 prizes from 157 pigeons.
In Region C against 4.019 pigeons we start with place 44-83-120-144-155-159 etc and fly 65/157 pigeons in the points (41% price percentage). The 1st from Regio C is for club member Peter Bambacht (yearling from the Harry line), the 2nd of the region is for team member Christian vd Wetering (out of Blue Brave x daughter Harry).
In the department against 19,543 pigeons we win 66 prizes of which 36x 1:10 (23% of our pigeons).
Our first one was a yearling cock. As youngbird he won 7 prizecards, all in the best 10%. Father is “De 400” from Harrie Kennes. 400 was 1st National Acebird NPO Middle Distance 2015. Mother is a daughter to “Harry” paired to “5005” (from Davinci x Hilde) The second one is also a yearling cock, but late bred in 2017 and only raced a few short distance races. Father is bred by Christian vd Wetering (from father Blue Brave x New Stareye). Mother is a direct daughter “Harry” paired to “Last One” (Jan & Rik Hermans)
The 3rd is a 2-year-old hen. Direct daughter to “Harry”. As a yearling she did race pretty well with several 1:100 notions.
