The racingseason will come soon!

We live now already mid-March. Spring is coming! With the beautiful weather of recent days its starting to itch a lot … still four weeks until the first race, with us in Section 7 on 9 April. On the flight program are among others six long distance races (instead of 5), which we are very happy because we think these are the best (and fairest) flights.

Our cocks are now at widowhood for 2 weeks, the last youngsters are ready a week ago. Its a beautiful race team, with 85% of yearling cocks, who has a good training in their birth year. From the older cocks, our eyes are at “Alex” and “Marus”, we are very curious how they should perform.  Van de meerjarige doffers zijn we benieuwd hoe “Alex” en “Marus” gaan presteren. About 3-4 times a week the cocks go outside and may fly for 1.5 to 2 hours. They are free to go in and out the lofts.. In terms of food we keep them fairly short, in a light mixture. Gradually we increase the training, and we bring more regularity in care. For us the short distance game is of minor importance, so we will not go making too much work on the training flights etc.

The hens are since today on widowhood. Their cocks bring the boy (+ – 15 days old) further large. From tomorrow we are going to darken the hens some, so to try to shift the peak shape to June, when the beautiful long distance races start. Also the hens training starts now  to raise the condition.

The distance pigeons for the ZLU are still all together on perches. In a few weeks the nest boxes are opened and they should be linked. These birds come free 3-4 times a week and  from the start of the season every week they will see the basket to the ZLU races begins.

Two weeks ago, the whole team has been vaccinated against Paramyxovirus and they have had about 5 days Colinol (DHP) on the water, a natural product. In the short term, we let’s check the mast and check a couple of pigeons on health and then we can regard our start.
