March blusters…

27 March 2015

This statement often beats very nice … including this week. During the days, its sunny and around 15 degrees, night freezes … alternating with rainy or foggy days. Ideal weather to keep the pigeons out of shape and that is exactly what we want.

It is a beautiful time of year, we think. Everything and everyone in nature regains “meaning” … The racing season is upon us. On April 11, starting with us in Section 7 the first sprint race. The widowers for 100-700km distance are now divorced and their offspring (produced by growers) are weaned. They are quite present in the lofts, especially the late young cocks 2014 are very busy and wailing much all day. There are a few ‘difficult cocks’ who try to pick the nest box of their neighbor  so it is careful. Early in the morning in the cold, they may one hour, hour and a half outside. ‘Thanks’ the raptors, they train quite nice, but we oblige them nothing. Last week they are vaccinated against Paramyxovirus. We feed them sparingly with a light mixture and we darken the lofts a bit.De weduwduivinnen zitten al hoog in de lucht

The widowhood hens are already high in the sky

The widowhood hens for the long distance twice been paired against the ‘spare cocks. The first time they are 14 days after the pair separated and the second time they were allowed to enjoy a few more days of their partner. Some (older) females have therefore be putted twice a couple of eggs, but no youngsters reared. Eggs like good racing hens  as of “Jantine” we have lay under other pairs, so we still have her youngsters … definitely worth it because of a granddaughter of Jantine bred at  brothers Scheele 5th National Ace Young WHZB in the past season 2014! (Jantine was then paired against Harry). Jantine itself also wins a 9th NPO Bourges, 16th NPO Chateauroux, 25th Prov. Nivelles, etc. and she is a direct daughter of the “James Bond” (brother Harry). Since the middle of last week, the hens are also on widowhood and here we perform scanty and we darken the lofts.

The pigeon ZLU we pair at the end of March. The yearlings are figuring out  their nestbox, someones can not easily take their choice. But it will be fine.

Meanwhile, there are over 200 early youngsters, everything comes out gently and elders fly it creaks. Everything is vaccinated against Paramyxovirus and once a day they get heaped on breeding feed. At the youngsters, we have also started giving Wonder Pigeon on the feed, a new product. Furthermore, we give them what Belgasol 1x weekly.

It’s a heavy youngbirds team, but because of the losses of the past few years in the youngsters (and the old), we have the supplement needed. Hopefully we’ll be spared this year for the great losses because it is a shame if you have to lose a lot of promises. Between the youngsters also housed a 50 ZLU pigeons. We also breed a number of (distance / ZLU) youngsters for the late year races so we can strengthen our ‘morning release loft’ (700-1200km races, with morning release = ZLU). Also, we want to grow a nice little team for South Africa so that our pigeons are also tested there.

We have also added back some pictures of breeding pigeons, see breeders. Inter alia, “Roney”, “Blue Bink,” “Three Parties”, “Jeanette” (brothers / sisters Harry) and “Mother Henky” a super breeding hen we bought at the end of 2012.

Everyone good luck and have fun in the preparations for the flyers!
