Last weekend, May 25th, it finally started: the one day long distance season. From now on a nice one day long distance flight and the big long distance flights … we look forward to this period every year.
The Salbris flight was the first on our calendar, 539 kilometers ahead of us. The forecasts were reasonable and the wind would be variable to northwest, good for our location. We decided to participate with 81 pigeons. We have kept most of the yearling cocks and a number of hens at home, these pigeons (24 of them) have been on the Vitines flight Lessines.
At 7:45 the starting signal was given for the 5,800 pigeons of our Department 7 Central Netherlands. A rainy front over northern France / Belgium would go away, but this turned out to be frighteningly slow, so that the pigeons could sometimes be confronted with (heavy) showers.
In excitement we wait for the pigeons, around 3 p.m. it was expected that they would come. The first pigeon arrived there just before 3 p.m., which was discovered after a minute’s delay at 3 p.m. It was the hen NL17-1410154 (daughter New Harry). Then we had to wait no less than 20 (!) Minutes for the second pigeon and after that the arrivals followed only slowly. More than an hour later half of the pigeons were not yet home and in the evening we missed 10 of the 81, of which 7 were already present on Sunday morning. A tough flight with strange progress, so it turned out to be with other enthusiasts. Fortunately our first pigeon was well in the head and wins the 7th NPO.
Great references for us on this Salbris too: 2nd NPO P. Bambacht from granddaughter Harry 3rd NPO Team Hooymans NL from Harry Junior 5th NPO Rien & Diny van Oss, on the father’s side from the Harry line 6th and 9th NPO Alex van Zomeren from grandson “Jonge Harry” (son Harry of Anton Ruitenberg) 10th NPO Fam. Bambacht from brother “Harry”
It was mainly the hens who came to us the best. With our first 7 pigeons there were 6 hens and with the first 20 pigeons no less than 15 hens. In the department we win 32 prizes from 81 pigeons (40% prize) of which 16x 1:10.
Our first pigeon, the NL17 / 154, is a direct daughter of New Harry. Amazing how well the New Harry inherits! Many top prizes have already won his descendants. Last week another direct daughter of the 2nd NPO against 10,000 p. at Team Hooymans NL and the week before another daughter 5th of 15,000 pigeons with us. Mother of the 7th NPO comes from Victor Massart (B) and a full sister of super hen “Vici” (2x 1st large connection as young).
Our second pigeon NL17 / 398 is a cock from “Blue Baron” (Colijn & Fox) x “Laatje 707” (Harry x Laatje 56) Our third pigeon NL18 / 017 is a hen from “Brother Harry 807” x “Sister Esmee” (Elzinga, via Pieter Veenstra).
